Jimmy Carr Live Collection

I laughed. Anything else in a review of a stand up comedy DVD seems unnecessary, but let's give overkill a go.

Jimmy Carr Live Collection packages the previous hit DVDs Live and Stand Up in a new box. Carr's stand up comedy is a tight collection of snappy one-liners, such as "If we're all God's children, what's so special about Jesus?" These are interspersed with a few longer anecdotes, and twists such as comic newspaper adverts and T-shirts. And I laughed at all of them.

His comedy won't be to everyone's tastes. If taken at face value, many of the jokes are deeply offensive. However, there is never even the hint of a suggestion that any offence is meant. There is something almost egalitarian in that everyone is a target of wordplay, jokes, comedy. This isn't the small-minded offensiveness of the likes of Bernard Manning or Jim Davidson, it's similar to the shock stemming from Ricky Gervais' stand up comedy. Post-modern, if you will. It doesn't always rely on rude words and shock value, but there's a good smattering in there. And I laughed at it.

Despite being a Perrier-nominated stand up comedian, Jimmy Carr is probably best known for presenting game shows Your Face Or Mine, Distraction, and 8 Out Of 10 Cats. His work on a number of Top 100 clip shows has led a lot of people to unfairly judge him. Those who aren't familiar with his stand up comedy should give him a chance, as they will laugh.

It's a shameless cash in, just repackaging already released DVDs. There's nothing new for people who have already bought them. Despite that disappointment, it's still two and a half hours of hilarious comedy.
